How to Safely Jump Start Another Car

It can happen at the worst of times: You're running late for an appointment, and all of a sudden, your car won't start up. This guide will help you to jump-start your car safely and easily.

If you have access to another (running) vehicle, you can get your vehicle up and running in no time. Bring the running car as close to the nose of the car with the dead battery. Turn off the car, open the hood for both cars, and grab your jumper cables.

The jumper cables have two red and two black clamps. The one red clamp first goes to the positive on the good battery. The other red clamp goes on positive terminal of the dead battery. The black clamp of the jumper cable goes to negative on good battery, then the other to the metal frame of the car with dead battery. Start the car and leave it running for a few minutes. Every few minutes, rev the car engine to speed up the charging process.

Crank over the car with the dead battery, and take off the cables. Once the car is running again, come to our KIA service center in Delray Beach, FL so we can give the charging system a complete test and determine if you need a new battery.
